It’s week 11 already! And in this blog, we will be answering the age-old AFL fantasy coach's weekly question... Who should you be starting this week as your fantasy team's captain? If you feel we have left someone out let us know on our socials - twitter, facebook, instagram, discord.
Lachie Neale
I’ve left him off this list for a couple of weeks now but I’m not prepared to do it again here against a new look GWS midfield. It can be argued that Neale is playing better footy right now than his Brownlow winning season in 2020, which is a scary thought! In his last five games, he’s averaging 129 GDS fantasy points which included a monster score of 161 against a stout Sydney Swans midfield. I feel like the only way you stop Neale in this matchup is if you bring Matt De Boer in from the two’s to do a tagging job on him. Good luck!
Brad Crouch
This is Brad Crouch’s second appearance in as many weeks in this blog series, he did okay for me last week after I gave him a big wrap, scoring 125 GDS fantasy points as St Kilda beat Adelaide. The matchup is obviously the big attractor here as he meets an abhorrent North Melbourne midfield. Jack Steele is still out which means Crouch has the keys to the midfield and I expect him to make the most of that opportunity in round 11. (He’s also my lock of the week in the Footy GameDay Squad Show so go Crouchy!)
Darcy Parish
Essendon still suck but Darcy Parish doesn’t! He currently holds the crown for most disposals per game with 34.6 just edging out Clayton Oliver. This form has been rewarded in fantasy terms as well, he went ballistic last week against Richmond scoring 165 fantasy GDS points. He’s also been sneaky consistent, scoring well over 100 fantasy GDS points 7 times out of the 10 games so far. He’ll come up against Port Adelaide and Willem Drew on Sunday which is no easy task but the way he’s playing, he looks a great captain option.
Bailey Smith
I wanted to throw a Bulldogs player in here because of the matchup V the West Coast Eagles and you could make a case for a handful of them! But I landed with Bailey Smith. Outside of him being Instagram followed by every poor bloke's girlfriend, he actually is really good at footy. He’s averaging 126 fantasy GDS points in his last 5 and becoming a super consistent option for a neverending Bulldogs midfield list. The stat I love the most for Smith is since week 3, he’s averaging 93% of time on ground - which is absolutely elite for a guy who plays the midfield/forward role he does. I really like him as an option this week.
Clayton Oliver
Clayton Oliver is insane. He’s only slipped under 100 fantasy GDS fantasy points once so far this year and has had some gargantuan scores this year including a mind-boggling 177 against North Melbourne last week. It’s hard to stick him in the Brownlow conversation given he plays with Christian Petracca and Max Gawn but he has to be up there at this rate! He’ll meet the Dockers here in round 11 which promises to be a great matchup. If he keeps finding the footy like he is and putting the ball on the laces as opposed to handballing, he’ll be in for another big week.
