Join us as Kerm puts on his general manager cap and selects his dream team going into round 5 of the AFL! He'll have the entire player pool to choose from, which should make selecting 6 defenders, 5 midfielders, 1 ruckman, and 6 forwards weekly easy right? Well, let us know who you agree with and who else you might have selected down below on all of our social channels twitter, facebook, instagram, discord.
Defenders (DEF)
What an absolute blood bath! Round 4 can seriously get in the bin as we saw our set-and-forget ruled out for 4-6 weeks with a knee injury in Sam Docherty. James Sicily had one of his all time stinkers all scoring 62 points against Geelong! And we saw Jordan Dawson and Jack Sinclair deployed as ruck rovers for the better part of their respective games! A forced change this week with Docherty getting injured, the rest will remain the same.
Mitch Duncan
Geelong Cats
Verses West Coast Eagles at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Sunday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 150 GDS fantasy points
Duncan didn't skip a beat in his 2023 season debut against Hawthorn on Easter Monday scoring 150 GDS fantasy points off the back of a 21 kick, 10 handball, 14 mark and 1 tackle performance! He found the ball at ease and his role looked extremely promising for fantasy, he played deep in defence at times, even taking some kick-ins and at other times he was used as the link-man between defence and the midfield playing higher up through the ground. I could have went his teammate Tom Stewart, Jake Lloyd or Mason Redman here but with how well he scored on the weekend, Duncan slots straight into Doch's big shoes!
Luke Ryan
Fremantle Dockers
Verses Gold Coast Suns at Norwood Oval, Adelaide
Friday at 5:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 118 GDS fantasy points
Luke Ryan was good again for fantasy owners and the Dockers, working his way to 118 GDS fantasy points in his outing against the Adelaide Crows. 118 points is about what we have come to expect from Ryan, his game style should prop him up to keep that level of scoring production until a full swing in role happens.
Jordan Dawson
Adelaide Crows
Verses Carlton Blues at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Thursday at 7:40pm AEST
Round 4 score - 147 GDS fantasy points
Jordan Dawson the... midfielder? I mean it worked! 147 GDS fantasy points in a big role change for the Adelaide captain. Week 4 marked Dawson's second consecutive week over 50+% centre-bounce-attendance percentage, proving that week 3 wasn't just a random fluke. It's exciting times for Dawson owners, if the role proves to be consistent we could be talking about the D1 here...
Jack Sinclair
St Kilda Saints Verses Collingwood Magpies at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Sunday at 4:50pm AEST
Round 4 score - 127 GDS fantasy points
"He should be good for 120+ GDS fantasy points and to be frank, if he misses that total, he'll be kicked out of the team this time next week!" Jack Sinclair, confirmed reader of GameDay Squads weekly team to beat blog? I mean... I stuck a rocket it up him last week and he came up big! 127 points against the Suns last week and we saw glimpses again of what made Sinclair so good in 2022. I gave him the criteria, he hit it, we go again this week.
James Sicily
Hawthorn Hawks Verses Greater Western Sydney Giants at Norwood Oval, Adelaide Sunday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 4 score - 62 GDS fantasy points
...
What was that? 62 points? After a 40 point first quarter? Look... let's just forget it and pretend it never happened... ok?
Nick Daicos
Collingwood Magpies
Verses St Kilda Saints at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Sunday at 4:50pm AEST
Round 4 score - 148 GDS fantasy points
So, so, so, so, so good at football! He's the new set and forget for me at the defender position.
Midfielders (MID)
This may be controversial but i'm not going to make any changes here this week. The elephant in the room is obviously Rory Laird... I know many would love for me to rage trade him right now but he was 2022's best ranked midfielder for a reason and i'm going to stick by him for a little bit longer! The rest are just very solid, Brayshaw, Parish, Oliver and Green, theres no reason to drop those guys right now.
Rory Laird
Adelaide Crows
Verses Carlton Blues at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Thursday at 7:40pm AEST
Round 4 score - 100 GDS fantasy points
He just scrapped through to triple digits late in the game but don't get it twisted, Laird was horrendous last week. He was tagged early on by Fremantle's James Aish and went completely missing for large chunks of the game. He is on the hot seat, i'm going to show some loyalty but we need a big score from Laird this week in his home town to justify keeping him in this article.
Andrew Brayshaw
Fremantle Dockers
Verses Gold Coast Suns at Norwood Oval, Adelaide
Friday at 5:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 124 GDS fantasy points
Dudes just very good at football.
Darcy Parish
Essendon Bombers
Verses Melbourne Demons at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Saturday at 4:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 114 GDS fantasy points
Currently ranked 5th based on average amongst midfielders to this point of the season, Darcy parish has been immense for owners and if he keeps going at this clip, he might be one of the best player cards in the game in the next few weeks! Tough matchup in round 5 against the Demons, but even anyone is going to find the ball against them, it's Parish.
Clayton Oliver
Melbourne Demons
Verses Essendon Bombers at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Saturday at 4:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 145 GDS fantasy points
Still holding the GameDay Squad Aussie Rules throne is superstar Clayton Oliver. The bloke is about as safe as houses at the minute, scoring with absolute ease and doesn't even look like he's breaking stride at the moment. He's the number one ranked player in the game and that doesn't look like changing any time soon!
Tom Green
Greater Western Sydney Giants
Verses Hawthorn Hawks at Norwood Oval, Adelaide
Sunday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 4 score - 128 GDS fantasy points
Just another day at the office for Tom Green... 16 kicks, 18 handballs, 6 marks and 2 tackles on 96(!) CBA percentage on the day. Green once again proving the opportunity equals everything in fantasy footy, as his comes into round 5 averaging 87% attendance at centre bounces per game! You have to think Green see's some attention from Finn Maginness this weekend, and honestly, rightfully so!
Ruckman (RUCK)
Genuine set and forget right now...
Tim English
Western Bulldogs
Verses Port Adelaide Power at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Saturday at 7:50pm AEST
Round 4 score - 169 GDS fantasy points
#1 ranked ruckman based on average
#1 ranked ruckman based on total scoring
The numbers speak for themselves
Forwards (FWD)
Alright, some changes need to be made here. To be frank, Dunkley hasn't been good enough, nor has Rozee or Coniglio but those two of the three will stay, I think they have the most opportunity to score well and it's only a matter of time before they do, but in saying that i'm going to drop Rozee for a week... which I know is borderline blasphemous, but that his score of 83 GDS points on the weekend means he needs a week in the reserves. Coniglio and Dunkley however are firmly on the hot seat, another poor score and some action will have to be made. I think i'm going to drop Dylan Moore out as well after his atrocious Easter Monday effort of just 74 GDS fantasy points. Two North Melbourne studs will come in!
Josh Dunkley
Brisbane Lions
Verses North Melbourne Kangaroos at Adelaide Hills, Mt Barker Saturday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 94 GDS fantasy points
Dunkley's history and reputation is the only thing keeping him in this team right now... 94 GDS fantasy points from some of Dunkley's scoring potential is just no where near what we would expect. He looks to be getting across the ground slowly, looking for cheap marks instead of getting it himself. We need a big game from him in week 5 against a Kangaroos midfield that Clarko has in hot form right now.
Jack Ziebell
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Verses Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Hills, Mt Barker Saturday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 125 GDS fantasy points
Jack Ziebell in 2023... wow. The North Melbourne veteran has become one of the most sought after fantasy assets in the game with his new role under Alastair Clarkson down in defence for the Kangas. Currently ranked 5th amongst all forwards in GameDay Squad Aussie Rules for points-per-game it's just become impossible to ignore him. His high volume kick-to-mark play style is one of the most consistent play styles in fantasy footy, so get him in as a high floor-high ceiling type operator for your forward lines.
Tim Taranto
Richmond Tigers
Verses Sydney Swans at the at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Friday at 8:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 129 GDS fantasy points
I mean, you can say what you want about his field kicking accuracy and his performances for Richmond but for fantasy he has been so consistently good! Scoring above 120 GDS fantasy points in all games this year, a player with that level of scoring floor at the forward position is an absolute must-start.
Stephen Coniglio
Greater Western Sydney Giants
Verses Hawthorn Hawks at Norwood Oval, Adelaide
Sunday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 4 score - 95 GDS fantasy points
Not a set and forget anymore.. spooky times. We need Coniglio to lift!
Harry Sheezel
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Verses Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Hills, Mt Barker Saturday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 135 GDS fantasy points
Rookie Harry Sheezel has the league at his feet! Fantasy footy aside, he might be one of, if not, the most inform player in the entire league right now! Sheezel boasts the second highest average amongst forwards so far this season... may I remind you, he is a rookie! His role is very similar to Ziebell's above as well, they both play the high volume kick-mark role except Sheezel does it a little higher up the ground. Get him in your squads!
Errol Gulden
Sydney Swans Verses Richmond Tigers at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Friday at 8:10pm AEST
Round 4 score - 110 GDS fantasy points
Not his best scoring effort and he was almost kicked out for Jeremy Cameron this week. Gulden needs to lift and work his way back into the midfield, otherwise Cameron is in!
Fringe players that just missed out on the starting 18.
Will Day (DEF) - Hawthorn Hawks
Jake Lloyd (DEF) - Sydney Swans
Mason Redman (DEF) - Essendon Bombers
