Join us as Kerm puts on his general manager cap and selects his dream team going into round 6 of the AFL! He'll have the entire player pool to choose from, which should make selecting 6 defenders, 5 midfielders, 1 ruckman, and 6 forwards weekly easy right? Well, let us know who you agree with and who else you might have selected down below on all of our social channels twitter, facebook, instagram, discord.
Defenders (DEF)
I thought round 4 was bad... enter round 5! Mitch Duncan stunk it up, Luke Ryan played his worst game this season and what the hell is going on with James Sicily? Ironically, despite half my defence playing with two left feet last week, i'm not going to be making any changes. Instead, all of them (except Daicos and Dawson) are on the hot seat this week. If Sinclair, Duncan, Sicily and/or Luke Ryan don't bounce back in a big way in round six, we will have a very different looking backline heading into round 7. Tom Stewart, Will Day, Liam Baker, Daniel Rioli and Jake Lloyd will all be vying for selection next week.
Mitch Duncan
Geelong Cats
Verses Sydney Swans at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong
Saturday at 7:25pm AEST
Round 5 score - 63 GDS fantasy points
An all time low (What a band) for Mitch Duncan as the Cats pumped the West Coast Eagles in the Gather Round last week. It was such an uncharacteristic game for Duncan who often found himself in no mans land throughout the game. The reason he stays despite his depressing score is that he averages ... GDS fantasy points at GMHBA stadium over his career and frankly odds. Odds are, Duncan will redeem himself for only finding the ball just14 times last week, It's Mitch Duncan we're talking about here.
Luke Ryan
Fremantle Dockers
Verses Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium, Perth
Friday at 8:10pm AEST
Round 5 score - 85 GDS fantasy points
Yuck Luke Ryan. It's been released from the weekend that Ryan is carrying some niggly injuries, which is definitely something to watch and keep an eye on. A couple of little tidbits about this match up though: - The Dogs rank 1st in fantasy points for opposition designated kickers.
- Ryan's last four matchups against the dogs he's racked up 31, 32, 25 and 25 disposals in those games.
He remains a must-start if he plays on Friday night, but he is still on the hot seat regardless!
Jordan Dawson
Adelaide Crows
Verses Hawthorn Hawks at the UTAS Stadium, Launceston
Sunday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 5 score - 156 GDS fantasy points
Dawson has gone nuclear to another level as a midfielder for the Crows. He's going to be a set and forget for the rest of the season. Podium finish in the making amongst defenders.
Jack Sinclair
St Kilda Saints Verses Carlton Blues atMarvel Stadium, Melbourne Sunday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 5 score - 108 GDS fantasy points
Jack Sinclair is just a bit "meh..." at the moment. Like 108 GDS fantasy points is okay, but for someone of Sinclair's scoring power, we should expect more. It's not like there isn't points to be had down back for St Kilda defenders this year either. Callum Wilkie is borderline a shout for this blog at the moment! Average 125 in his last three games. We need a big score from Sinclair this week.
James Sicily
Hawthorn Hawks Verses Adelaide Crows at UTAS Stadium, Launceston Sunday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 5 score - 92 GDS fantasy points
Man... 62 points in round 4, 92 points in round 5. Have we over estimated how consistent Sicily can be? I think he's still an elite option at the defender position. I will be treating this round 6 matchup against the Adelaide Crows a s a get right game for Sicily and i'm expecting a 120+ GDS fantasy score.
Nick Daicos
Collingwood Magpies
Verses Essendon Bombers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne Tuesday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 5 score - 167 GDS fantasy points
Soooooooooooooo, so, so, so, so good at football! He's the new set and forget for me at the defender position.
Midfielders (MID)
I thought midfielders were meant to be the safest scoring positional group in Aussie Rules fantasy? Couldn't be further from the truth at the moment! If it's not Rory Laird it's Andy Brayshaw as he disappointed last week against the Gold Coast Suns. Tom Green is also facing a weeks suspension for a dangerous tackle on Josh Ward so we are forced to make a change, Green will be the only one.
Rory Laird
Adelaide Crows
Verses Hawthorn Hawks at the UTAS Stadium, Launceston
Sunday at 1:10pm AEST
Round 5 score - 133 GDS fantasy points
Exhibit B for why you trust Rory Laird after a poor showing. It was as if Laird hit the mercy rule button after half time, because he was everywhere in the first half. Still, 133 is more than welcoming from a guy who has been up and down to start the season. Expect him to go on with these big scores now.
Andrew Brayshaw
Fremantle Dockers
Verses Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium, Perth
Friday at 8:10pm AEST
Round 5 score - 86 GDS fantasy points
So turns out Andy Brayshaw is human, but one thing remains consistent, dudes really good at football. I'm just going to forget this ever happened.
Darcy Parish
Essendon Bombers
Verses Collingwood Magpies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne
Tuesday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 5 score - 123 GDS fantasy points
Darcy Parish is just about as safe as houses at the moment (knock on wood). An average of 126 GDS fantasy points per game at the moment ranks him 4th overall amongst midfielders league-wide and he faces the Magpies this week in an ANZAC Day clash he has historically loved in the past. In 2022's edition of the ANZAC Day clash, Parish posted a clinical 44 disposals on the day. A reenactment of that will have owners very happy!
Clayton Oliver
Melbourne Demons
Verses Richmond Tigers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne
Monday at 7:25pm AEST
Round 5 score - 128 GDS fantasy points
Very good at footy this bloke. Even after a 2 disposal first quarter due to copping a Will Setterfield tag, Oliver collected 20 disposals in the fourth quarter alone! To climb his way to 128 GDS fantasy points. He goes alright hey.
Jack Steele
St Kilda Saints Verses Carlton Blues atMarvel Stadium, Melbourne Sunday at 3:20pm AEST
Round 5 score - 0 GDS fantasy points
Jack Steele is due back from injury this week for Ross Lyon and the Saints this week. I fully expect him to kick off where he left off and keep up his average of 128 GDS fantasy points against an injury stricken Carlton Blues side.
Ruckman (RUCK)
Genuine set and forget right now...
Tim English
Western Bulldogs
Verses Port Adelaide Power at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
Saturday at 7:50pm AEST
Round 5 score - 147 GDS fantasy points
#1 ranked ruckman based on average
#1 ranked ruckman based on total scoring
The numbers speak for themselves
Forwards (FWD)
Forwards have actually become the hardest positional group too sort out. Everyone performed up to standard in round 5, but a big decision needs to be made and Errol Gulden is going to be the player that makes way. He's done absolutely nothing wrong and was superb on the weekend. I'm sure he'll be back in this team at some stage but tough decisions call for tough outcomes.
Josh Dunkley
Brisbane Lions
Verses Greater Western Sydney at Manuka Oval, Canberra Saturday at 4:35pm AEST
Round 5 score - 113 GDS fantasy points
Still not great, but still not cataclysmic as well. We need more that 113 from Dunkley, we should expect 120+ at a minimum and I think we see that this weekend as he takes on a Tom Green-less GWS side.
Jack Ziebell
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Verses Gold Coast Suns at Heritage Bank Stadium, Gold Coast Sunday at 4:40pm AEST
Round 5 score - 112 GDS fantasy points
It was looking shaky for big Jack Ziebell at one point in North Melbourne's round 5 loss to the Brisbane Lions but clawed his was back into the game to finish on 112 GDS fantasy points. Decent return in his debut for the team to beat blog team and i'm excited to see what he can do against a pretty gross Gold Coast Suns side.
Tim Taranto
Richmond Tigers
Verses Melbourne Demons at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne
Monday at 7:25pm AEST
Round 5 score - 119 GDS fantasy points
Taranto remains so consistent in his scoring with five straight scores now over 115+ GDS fantasy points. That's the type of scoring we would have expected from fellow "Guns" Josh Dunkley, Stephen Coniglio and Connor Rozee. He's a must start amongst forwards right now no matter the media attention he's getting.
Stephen Coniglio
Greater Western Sydney Giants
Verses Brisbane Lions at Manuka Oval, Canberra
Saturday at 4:35pm AEST
Round 5 score - 137 GDS fantasy points
Back in good form! Set and forget.
Harry Sheezel
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Verses Gold Coast Suns at Heritage Bank Stadium, Gold Coast Sunday at 4:40pm AEST
Round 5 score - 116 GDS fantasy points
Just very good work again from Harry Sheezel, even some time on the pine trying to sort out a sore thumb wasn't enough to keep him down for too long! He's a watch with his thumb but also a watch with Clarko talking up Aaron Hall... which is spooky. I'm not sure if we would see a role change if Hall comes back into the senior side, but until then, let's forget he even said anything and carry on loving this great man.
Jeremy Cameron
Geelong Cats Verses Sydney Swans at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong
Saturday at 7:25pm AEST
Round 5 score - 116 GDS fantasy points
Gulden did literally nothing wrong but it's just far too hard to ignore the great man any longer. Jeremy Cameron has been incredible for the Cats and for fantasy so far this year. He's been doing it all! Dropping all the way back to the half-back flank and accumulating easy marks, kicking goals at ease leading the Coleman medal race. All while averaging 136 GDS fantasy points a game! The guy is elite, get him in your teams.
Fringe players that just missed out on the starting 18.
