Join us as JT puts on his general manager cap and selects his dream team going into round 3 of the NRL! He'll have the entire player pool to choose from, which should make selecting 3 winger/fullbacks, 2 centres, 2 halves, 2 edge forwards, 3 middle forwards and 1 hooker weekly easy right? Please note that the round rank is based on where the player ranks within their position. The same applies for the overall rank except the rank is calculated on the players average not total points. Well, let us know who you agree with and who else you might have selected down below on all of our social channels twitter, facebook, instagram, discord.
Winger/Fullbacks (WFB)
Latrell Mitchell
South Sydney Rabbitohs (Average 63, Round 2 Rank – 8th, Overall Rank – 4th) Verses Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Sydney Friday at 8pm AEST
Latrell is one of the inform WFBs in fantasy. This is off the back of two tough games against the Sharks and Panthers. Things don’t get any easier for him this week with the Roosters on deck. Until I see otherwise, Latrell is too good not to be ranked in the top three WFBs each week. He has one of the highest ceilings in the position and can hit more often than a lot of other WFBs. I think it’s too risky not starting Latrell, especially when he comes up against his old club. I have him scoring 50+ points this week.
James Tedesco
Roosters (Average 38, Round 2 Rank – 21st, Overall Rank – 19th) Verses Rabbitohs at Allianz Stadium, Sydney Friday at 8pm AEST
In fantasy terms, Teddy has been a bit of a disappointment this season. Like Latrell, I believe Teddy is too good not to start every week. I almost did bench him this week but then recalled that he bombed almost a certain try against the Warriors, early in the second half. From that moment, Teddy didn’t really add to his score. That one play alone cost him 15 points and we may be looking at Teddy in a different light this week if he had scored that try. Going by Teddy’s last three 80-minute performances against the Rabbitohs, it seems that he gets up for this fixture and averages 50+ across these games. I’m expecting Teddy to kick into gear this week and have him scoring 50+ points.
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow
Dolphins (Average 62, Round 2 Rank – 5th, Overall Rank – 5th) Verses Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle Friday at 6pm AEST
At the beginning of the season I didn’t think I would be ranking the Hammer in my top three WFBs but his performances over the opening two rounds, warrants his selection. He has been outstanding and looks dangerous every time he touches the ball. The Hammer had to deal with sweltering temperatures in round 1 and a very wet track in round 2. On both occasions he scored 60+ points. The Hammer has a favorable matchup against the Knights this week. The Knights have allowed 50+ points to opposition fullbacks in both of their games. Looking at these numbers and matchup, it might just be worth the risk rolling the dice on the Hammer this week. I have him scoring 50+ points this week.
Centres (CTR)
Herbie Farnworth
Broncos (Average 54, Round 2 Rank – 3rd, Overall Rank 1st) Verses Dragons at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Saturday at 7:35pm AEST
Herbie is the inform centre of the NRL and deservedly so. He’s been great with the ball in hand and solid in defence. It may be a difficult day in defence against the Dragons coming up against the tackle busting Moses Suli. However, I really like the upside in attack he brings to this matchup. Unlike last week, it looks like the game will be played in perfect conditions and I’m expecting a few points to be scored. Hopefully we see another try or two from Herbie this week. I have him scoring 45+ points.
Zac Lomax
Dragons (Average 50, Round 2 Rank – 5th, Overall Rank 5th) Verses Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Saturday at 7:35pm AEST
Lomax had a solid game first up against the Titans, providing a couple of line break assists and a try assist. He did score 18 of his points through goals and I’m not sure if he will have as many shots on goal this week. Since 2018, this fixture has been relatively high scoring and averaged 52 total points a game over seven matches. Like I mentioned above, it looks like the conditions will be ideal for a high scoring affair. Hopefully Lomax can chalk up a couple more try assists via Ravalawa, kick a few goals and maybe even cross over for a try himself. I have him scoring 40+ points.
Halves (HLF)
Daly Cherry Evans
Sea Eagles (Average 100, Round 2 – bye, Overall Rank – 1st) Verses Eels at 4 Pines Park, Sydney Thursday at 8pm AEST
With the likes of Cleary, Hynes unavailable this week and possibly Doueihi, the decision is easy to have DCE included in my team to beat this week. He has been one of the most consistent halves for a long time and coming off the top overall score in round 1, he’s got to be in my side. I have him scoring 60+ points.
Adam Reynolds
Broncos (Average 62, Round 2 Rank – 5th, Overall Rank – 3rd) Verses Dragons at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Saturday at 7:35pm AEST
Like DCE, Reynolds has been a good half in fantasy for many years. With my prediction of this fixture being high scoring, Reynolds may be in for a great game. He offers a decent base and hopefully we will see an uptick attacking stats this week. I have him scoring 55+ points.
Edge Forwards (EDG)
J’maine Hopgood
Eels (Average 70, Round 2 Rank – 2nd, Overall Rank – 1st) Verses Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park, Sydney Thursday at 8pm AEST
Hopgood is the fantasy cheat code as he plays as MID but his position is an EDG. His nickname in the fantasy community is Hopgun and for good reason. Hopgood is a dream player for fantasy and ticks every box we could ask for as coaches. He is a set and forget in EDG position in my opinion for the time being. I have him scoring 60+ points.
David Fifita
Titans (Average 56, Round 2 Rank – 5th, Overall Rank – 3rd) Verses Storm at Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast Saturday at 3pm AEST
Fifita has been great in fantasy this year. I know we are only two weeks into the season but with 52 points in round 1 in a winning performance and 61 in round 2 in a losing performance, we may be seeing a more consistent Fifita this year. He hasn’t even had a boom game yet and this can come any week against any opposition. Because of his consistency and his boom potential, Fifita makes my team to bet for the second week running. I have him scoring 50+ points this week.
Middle Forwards (MID)
Cameron Murray
Rabbitohs (Average 49, Round 2 Rank – outside the top 20), Overall 19th) Verses Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Sydney Friday at 8pm AEST
Murray has been underwhelming to say the least this season and he has looked a bit gassed on the field. In a big rivalry game against the Roosters, I’m expecting Murray to bounce back and show why he is one of the most sought after players in fantasy. The Bunnies are likely to rely on his ball playing ability and as the game wears on we may find Murray producing a line break assist or try assist, he might even cross over for a try. With the fantasy pedigree Murray offers, I’ll be keeping him in my team to beat once again. I have him scoring 60+ points this week.
Payne Hass
Broncos (Average 64, Round 2 Rank – 9th, Over Rank – 4th) Verses Dragons at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Saturday at 7:35pm AEST
Haas is the Mr Reliable of the MIDs. With his consistently high base and tackle breaking ability, this work horse is a set a forget for me in the MIDs. I have him scoring 60+ points his week.
Tohu Harris
Warriors (Average 68, Round 2 Rank – 4th), Overall Rank – 1st) Verses Cowboys at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville Saturday at 5:30pm AEST
Over the opening rounds, Tohu looks like he’s back to the fantasy player we were falling head over heels for a few years ago. His tackle count is off the charts and has made 111 tackles this season with only 3 missed tackles. These numbers are just simply outstanding! The Warriors will have their work cut out for them against a wounded Cowboys outfit and Tohu will likely shoulder a heavy workload once again. With the temperature predicted to be around 30 degrees at kickoff we may not see Tohu get the full 80-minutes this week. If the Warriors are to be competitive in this one, I believe Tohu will need to be out there for the entire game. I have him scoring 60+ points this week.
Hooker (HOK)
Harry Grant
Strom (Average 67, Round 2 Rank – 3rd, Overall Rank 2nd) Verses Titans at Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast Saturday at 3pm AEST
The Storm will be smarting over their shock defeat in Melbourne against the Bulldogs and I’m expecting a huge game from Grant this week. The Titans last week were terrible at defending around the ruck and this saw the Dragons hooker Jacob Liddle be the top scoring hooker with 67 points. If the Titans don’t tighten up around this area, we may see Grant have an absolute field day. I have him scoring 65+ points.
Fringe players that just missed out on the starting 13.
